What's the difference between connecting to the BE with Excel or Access?
None, they are both going to do the same thing with the .ldb.

detect that? You need this sort of code in the BE not the FE, and it
needs
to be independent of the FE in question. FE, spoze I log in from an
Excel
spreadsheet, an Access FE and a VB app? The only way to trap all that is
with logic in the BE. If it's SQL then it's almost trivial, and if it's
an
MDB BE then it's a little more complicated.
