[AccessD] Is operator

The only place I've ever used IS to compare anything other than objects is in Queries.

There it can only be used to compare a field or expression to NULL or NOT NULL..  
That is a very specific instance where you are using the syntax of Jet SQL not Access 
VBA. - it is the SQL version of the VBA function ISNULL().   

Can you give any case where you  use IS in VBA to compare anything other than 
objects?
