[AccessD] Pushing A2K Data to SQL2K - S-L-O-W!:

Ron,
The reason I asked is that I used to use a data migrating tool called "Data
Junction" to interact between Informix and SQL Server. That was about 6+
years ago so I don't know that it would even be necessary now.

Hopefully someone can help you do it directly but if not there were
different packages of Data Junction. The more expensive one included the
functionality of using both DBs and transferring the data back and forth as
needed basically an integration tool. The least expensive one, as it was,
would really help you out in this venture it was basically a migration tool.

I'm not sure of the cost but it was a couple hundred $ for the basic
migration tool. You could map out the Informix DB in it and transfer the
data in no time. When you got to the final transfer it would be all set up
for you. I think that is what you're attempting to do with having Access in
between.

I'm sure the product has changed in the time since I have used it but
"hopefully" only for the better. Their tech support used to be excellent
too.

HTH and Good Luck!

John B.

John, We are migrating away from Informix (not a dig against the
multi-value architecture at all - I'll certainly miss some of it's
strengths!). I'm developing the migration/conversion processes because they
have to be repeatable (multiple piloting runs). And once we reach the go
live date, I'll need the latest and greatest exports, and the legacy system
is 'shut down'.

Best Regards,
Ron

Are Informix and SQL server both going to be part of the final soulution
with migration between the two being a regular process or is the goal to
eliminate Informix?

*cross-posted to SQL & Access Forums*

I'm migrating/converting data from an Informix DB to a SQLServer2K app using
A2K as the middleware. The final append query selects records from a buffer
table and inserts them into a SQL table through an ODBC connection. The
push of the largest table takes almost 5 HOURS! :-(((( The Windows Task
Manager shows A2K and the specific DB 'toggling' between 'Running' and 'Not
Responding', but the process does finish.

107,850 Records in A2K table. 72 Fields. DB size (compressed before push)
is 86Mb (was 346Mb).

Do I have to live with this lack of speed? This is for a pilot which will
be built from 'scratch' MANY times before it goes to production.

TIA,
