Good rant!

BTW, it occurred to me that the very fact that users feel compelled to do it
themselves implies that IT is not responsive enough which is a validation
for MORE IT personnel not less.  Assuming that IT is working flat out and
still has no time to help the user in what the user deems a "reasonable
time".
