And of course I can get the schema info using .net.  Just have to add a
parameter to the call.  The schema info is apparently quite useful if you
want to import, then write back out again.  Ensures you get the same thing
in all cases or something like that.

Didn't you guys ever try persisting  a recordset as XML from Access 2k
or XP?  An equal no-brainer.

DataSet11.WriteXml("c:\TestXml.xml")
