Thanks for the replies.
good tip Andy, it wasn't directly another index
but the table has an n:1 join to another table, due to
records missing there, appending new data wasn't possible,
violation of the integrity rule.

sometimes a bit of sleep works wonders :-)

IIRC the Access error says something about "index errors", not
specifically PK ones. Are you sure you hven't got another index which is
preventing these records appending?
