I am going to express my ignorance here. How do I know if I have the
Office 10/11 object model installed and if so how do I use it? Thanks.

...if you have the Office 10/11 object model installed, the File Dialog
Object is imnsho, by far the most useful for this purpose ...if not the
common dialog or file system objects will work with call backs but with
limitations.

www.helenfeddema.com has a couple of detailed articles on their use and
he
pros and cons of both ...along with sample dbs.
