Are you sure they are spaces, and not a strange ASCII character that looks like a space? The record in question has valid data, but out in the middle of the string has > 3000 spaces and InStr() cannot find any spaces out in the area of the string where these 3000 spaces reside. I'm baffled. I need to find this string (in a 3 million line file) and not copy just that line, but I can't sense the line. Weird. John W.
