My workaround seems to be nice and simple:  I selected all 120 fields and in
the Property Sheet I entered: "BeforeUpdate() = True" in the ValidationRule
property.  This will call the function and if it returns False, the
validation rule will fail.  Within the function I set the ValidationText to
my error message and it works just fine.
