Can you change the ram size after the vm is created?

When you set up your first VMs the wizard is fairly straight forward.

Give your machiine plenty of RAM, you can always reduce it later.
Create a dynamically expanding boot disk and set it's size bigger that you
think will need.
(I generally set mine to 30GB - you can always add additional disks later)

Be sure to install the "guest additions"

Play around with the CD/DVD, USB, Network settings etc to get familiar with
them.
