Turn off the UAC, to help with the security issue.

On my laptop though, performance is still better then XP.

I got my latest laptop with Vista and while it's annoying (the security
drives me nuts and I hate the aero look), it's tolerable.  Unlike you, I
have found the performance to be poor by comparison to XP but then I'm
not running 64 bit on 4 STAT drives.

Ironically, I just moved my laptop back to Vista.  When I bought it
(almost exactly a year ago), it came with Vista.  Being an IT guy, I
figured I might as well have something with Vista on it, to get used to
it.
