Yes... This would be my thought on this too.  I think you need to be
very clear about what you are doing for the $4K and what they expect for
their $4K.

Also what about 'on-going' support and scope creep etc?

With friends stuff, sometimes it is better to walk away....

The A2K7 RT works just fine. The part I would be worried about is the
$4K turn-down. Good opportunity to get bitten or lose a friend.
