[AccessD] Svar: What to do? (was: Just Another Old Boys Club)

Yes, his knowledge with Access issues was stellar and his understanding of
the whole computer field was outstanding.

The truth is that knowledge of Access as a developer's package is
disappearing. There is no longer training in it and Access is moving from VB
to macros/cloud and not to .Net where it should be going. The industry is
also moving to the web in a big way and a lot of PC development is going
there.

I still do upgrades and support work for Access application but I have not
worked on a new Access site in about eight(?) years.

I do wish there was a web Access development platform as sophisticated as
Access was for the PC. There are a lot of frame-works out there but they all
have weaknesses in one area or another.

I am sure at one point someone will complete a web application package with
the power and functionality of PC Access but not yet. To get a client's
attention you have to be able to diagram an app in a few hours before they
will commit to a large project.

The bottom-line is we need to expand our lists to cover the new technologies
and improve the lists functionality.

Jim
