[dba-SQLServer]EM causing network traffic

I have the little icon for the NIC down in my toolbar - the little "two
computers" icon that displays traffic on the network.

I just discovered that if I have EM open and specifically have expanded the
server icon so that I can see the databases / data transformation services /
Management etc folders, that I get constant network traffic.  As soon as I
close EM, the traffic stops.

Is this normal?  If so, what is it doing?
