They make a product called Active Factory to query/report against an INSQL database IN stands for Industrial SQL Server, A product made by Wonderware. In their documentation they state that if you already have SQL CAL's, or per processor license then you do not need to purchase any additional FSCAL's from them. This project was primarily outsourced with minimal IT intervention. The Plant Engineers handled most of this, however we are left to maintain it and make sure its up and running 24/7. We are getting our hands dirty now that they gave us the keys to get at everything. Please note that if you have an SQL app that stores files on the file server (in regular file format) for document archiving purposes (for example) you do need a File Server CAL to access the file server where the documents are stored! Just to prove to my boss and the vendor, is there a command or a place to physically look at what type of licensing was chosen during installation since I did not do the installation I'd like to see what was actually chosen during the install? We have other software that can access the data from SQL server so that the managers and QC people can get live reports on how the product is so they can make good decisions on adjustments etc. We just received a email from a company that assisted in installing the PLC equipment and setting up the software. they are telling us that we need to buy FSCAL's for each computer that tries to connect to the SQL server. Our SQL server is licensed Per Processor, does this FSCAL requirement still apply to us?
