Jim

You can sign up for a free account on the web. Save you installing and let you get a feel for it.

Theres a Try It Free site and then there is the actual free site make sure oyu pick the correct one.

Easy to set up. Yes and no. We set up several single server installs. No problems. We are now having problems building a farm. Two MOSS servers, One SQL Server. Shoudl be part of your set up. I think the latest SPs for Win 2003 contain it. If not you can download it.

In my case a lot of work will be required as we need to build very specific business functionality into this. But one think it allows us to do out of the box is push information out to specific AD groups and users.

MOSS is a server APP. Access via URL. Very extensive object model.

ALl the client needs is IE and Office.

Loads of gochas mostly to do with the install. For example I am sitting here at home at 9.36pm logged onto a MOSS server in work trying to configure search service and sending emails threathening our network administrator (<:

Any help I can give just ask but we to are on a huge learning curve with this.

Thank you, Steve, Eric and Martin for the information... So is it just a
document manager? I guess it would be great for a lawyers', accounts' or
even a government office.

Is the app installed automatically, just has to be located and initialized
or is it sitting on the Server 2003 installation disks? Is it fairly
intuitive or does it require a great deal of preparation. Is the MOSS a
client app for desktop stations? Can a ordinary browser use it? Is it fairly
straight forward to setup clients? If I decide to play is there any 'gochas'
to look out for?

TIA
Jim

I have just moved job to oversee the deployment of a 29,000 user MOSS
install. First 300 user site goes live July. Out of the box it provides
great features. With some programming even more. I am lucky as I have been
paired iwth one of the best programmers in the University for this.

We are initially using it to drive almost all of our administrative
functions. Document sharing, communications etc

Its early days and it does have issues once you get beyond the user
interface but it is very good. The searching ability it has to search MOSS
sites, Exchange and file shares etc is really useful to us.
