Regarding MySQL's flat-lining, I wonder how much these facts have to do
with that:

1. Not many people like Oracle and Larry in particular, especially in the
Linux community.
2. Google has kicked both money and people into MariaDB, lending it a lot
more credibility.
3. A couple of distros have dropped MySQL in favour of Maria.
4. Maria is a drop-in replacement for MySQL.
5. Maria has several significant new features not yet present in MySQL.
