[dba-Tech] Access vs. .NET

I started out doing COBOL and CICS command and macro level stuff
against DL/I databases. First on an IBM 360 and later on a 4361. Later
the company replaced the 4361 with AS/400 so I learned RPG which had
the relational database integrated with the operating system. Access
seemed like a good step from there so I took a night school class at a
Jr College and the rest is history....

I got into my current employer because I had both COBOL and Access
skills - they were still using COBOL on a UNIX platform and Access was
their report writer. Now that has been abandoned for the back hole of
Oracle Applications 11i
;-) I'm still using Access for a lot of ad-hoc and quick and dirty
reporting for management though.
