I don't remember (a colleague handled it) but it sounds likely. If you were lucky, the drive malfunctioned slightly and you had time to backup. A few days or a week later it died. Or it just died. We ended up having a hot connect at HP service bypassing al the usual phone desk border stuff ...

Did they HPs have Fujitsu drives?

I had a customer a few years ago with an HP PC which had a recall on the
hard drive if made by Fujitsu . We checked out the recall but they only
replaced the drive and did not cover the expense of installation or
transferring the OS, files, etc. She decided not to do it and one month
after the deadline her drive died.
