Windows Defender is not very good. If $15 is too much for a top notch program, I'd recommend you use the free versions of Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware in additional to it. You'd have to run a manual scan with them though. -----Original Message----- From: dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:dba-tech-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Rocky Smolin - Beach Access Software Sent: Monday, July 17, 2006 10:01 AM To: dba-tech Subject: [dba-Tech] Windows Defender I am being told that a new version of Windows Defender is available for download. I unfortunately had to give up K9 when my ISP decided to crawl into bed with MS and Hotmail for my e-mail servers. I had to go with secure pop and smtp connections and K9 didn't natively support secure connections. And I couldn't get the 3rd party tool that did the secure connections to work with it. Having said all that, when I used K9, I never had it have bad days like that. Once it was trained it was upwards of 98% effective with something like 7 false positives in the couple of years I used it. It can't be done easily through WMI But I found this method for Office 2000-2003 Toolbox The files for the Office Update Inventory Tool are packaged in two self-extracting executable files (Invcm.exe and Invcif.exe) and are available as downloads. You can find this downloadable file on the Office 2003 Resource Kit Downloads page. On the Downloads page, search for Office Update Inventory Tool Version 2.2. When new Office updates are released, a new version of Invcif.exe is released on the same day as when the updates become available on the Office Update Web site. Look for Office Update Inventory Tool Version 2.2 http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2003ddl.htm Install the two above files into directory c:\OfficeInventory Then run this below in a batch file C:\OfficeInventory\inventory /s c:\OfficeInventory\cifs /o C:\OfficeInventory\ C:\OfficeInventory\convert /d C:\OfficeInventory\ /o C:\OfficeInventory\martin.xml /xml C:\OfficeInventory\patchdata.xml You get a cvs file or xml file that looks like this - - - - MartyConnelly wrote: >You will only see msohelp.exe running in your task manger list. >I have 2003 not XP on my machine with 97 and 2007 >There should be a help file like this for Office 10.0 >"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\vbaac10.chm" > >You might want to try running Belarc Advisor on this machine >and compare differences with a working machine. >It produces a boatload of info on the machine >A hardware list, a list of user accounts and which have admin priveleges, >a list of windows hot fixes, a list of software installed, a list of >license and activation keys. >Unfortunately this will not list the Office hotfixes Maybe the pro >edition does.. > >http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html > >open this file for report >c:\program files\belarc\advisor\system\tmp\(COMPUTERNAME).html >(where COMPUTERNAME is the name of your PC) > >See Windows Installer FAQ: >http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/community/centers/management/msi... > >Under "Troubleshooting" section, see: > >" Q.Every time I launch my application, Windows Installer performs an >installation.
