I have formatted the column as hh/mm/ss something like 29 minutes, 3 seconds and 17 frames shows up as 29/03/17 this works just fine up to a certain line (31). there it shows something like 05/03/17 and if I look at whats in there it shows 01.01.1900 05/03/17. it doesnt help to mark the whole column and format it as hh/mm/ss. but if I copy one cell with the correct format, then erase it and then type in the value I want, it works. any idea, what to do to make it working from the beginning on? thanks Lembit From lembit.dbamail at t-online.de Wed May 3 11:02:24 2006 From: lembit.dbamail at t-online.de (Lembit Soobik) Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 18:02:24 +0200 Subject: [dba-Tech] Excel Date/time problem References: <87C856B802C3D511B69B0002A5CD10EAC84C19@ALCUXB> <008401c66ec5$38b4bf20$1400a8c0@v1000> Message-ID: <002101c66eca$f7dea2d0$1400a8c0@v1000> just found that co copy a 'good value' to other cells in the column and then type over it wont help. it comes back with the 01.01.1900 05/03/17 >I am using Excel 2002 SP3 to list whats on my camcorder tapes- > I use one column to record the location on the tape (it is shown in hours, > minutes, seconds, frames. > the hours are usually 0 sine that are 60 minutes tapes. > I have formatted the column as hh/mm/ss > something like 29 minutes, 3 seconds and 17 frames shows up as 29/03/17 > this works just fine up to a certain line (31). > there it shows something like 05/03/17 and if I look at whats in there it > shows 01.01.1900 05/03/17. > > it doesnt help to mark the whole column and format it as hh/mm/ss. > but if I copy one cell with the correct format, then erase it and then > type > in the value I want, it works. > > any idea, what to do to make it working from the beginning on? > > thanks > Lembit > > _______________________________________________ > dba-Tech mailing list > dba-Tech at databaseadvisors.com > http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-tech > Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.1.385 / Virus Database: 268.5.2/329 - Release Date: 02.05.2006 > > From lembit.dbamail at t-online.de Wed May 3 11:13:52 2006 From: lembit.dbamail at t-online.de (Lembit Soobik) Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 18:13:52 +0200 Subject: [dba-Tech] Excel Date/time problem References: <87C856B802C3D511B69B0002A5CD10EAC84C19@ALCUXB><008401c66ec5$38b4bf20$1400a8c0@v1000> <002101c66eca$f7dea2d0$1400a8c0@v1000> Message-ID: <000601c66ecc$91f0d0e0$1400a8c0@v1000> well, it turns out that since I had formattet it to hh/mm/ss rather than hh/mm/ss/frames, which doesnt exist of course, (I cheated) the !?$"&"?%Excel does take the first number as hours and therefore doesnt allow anything beyound 24/00/00 guess i have to find a better way. It schedules the work for the analysts, then passes the results upstairs where they're reported and invoiced by the admin staff. To connect the computers to the server, we use a DSN connection. I've recently discovered that I can use a System DSN to connect, so I only have to set it up once per pc, instead of once per user per pc, which will obviously save me hundreds of hours going around running a batch file every time we have a new starter. I'd therefore like to remove all the old user based DN connections, the only thing is that they're held in the current_user section of the registry, and to get to that, I'd have to get each user to log onto each pc, which would then make hundreds more hours work, which seems silly to me. So what I want to know is if it's possible to run a small batch file in people's login scripts that will remove the old registry entries... and if so, how I go about it. I don't think you know the current user but you do have access to all user accounts on that machine. If so - depending on how many users you have, it may be more efficient to just do it manually. Message-ID: <030e01c67f6f$49866640$6502a8c0@ScuzzPaq> >From ZDnet http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-6075907.html?tag=nl.e550 In the wake of at least one targeted attack that exploits a new flaw in Word, Microsoft is advising users to run the application in "safe mode." Running Word in the restricted mode will not fix the vulnerability, but it will help block known modes of attack, Microsoft said in a security advisory published late Monday. The software maker is also developing a security update for Word, which should be available on June 13 or sooner, as warranted, the company said. Enabling "safe mode" is a two-step process. The first part involves disabling the use of Word as an e-mail client, the second is appending "/safe" to the command line that starts Word. Microsoft provides instructions for home and enterprise users in its security advisory. News of the Word flaw and attack surfaced last week. Word 2002 and Word 2003 are vulnerable, but Word 2000 is not, Microsoft said. For an attack to be carried out, a PC user must open a malicious Word document sent in an e-mail or otherwise provided by an attacker, it said. Aside from changing the way Word runs, people can protect their systems by being careful in the opening of Word documents received as an unexpected e-mail attachment, Microsoft said. So far I haven't undertaken vinyl transfers. The cassette tapes went horribly wrong. I experimented a few months ago with different methods and eventually bought a "PlusDeck" unit which is a 5.25" cassette tape unit that mounts in the PC. None of the software works very well so I used to it to feed SoundForge but about the time I got everything figured out with my test batch of tapes I found that the vast majority of my cassettes just don't work anymore! They have a load squeal to them when playing :o( Maybe I'll have more luck with the vinyl - I hope! Of course, the low ink warning comes up when the carts are still about 1/3 full but that's the scam. Give away the razor, sell the blade. Anyway, I refilled the cartridges but the warning still comes up every time I print something. Apparently these printers are "chipped" with some kind of bogus counter rather than actually sensing the ink level. In any event I combed the net looking for info on resetting this counter (without actually having to spend $40-50 on new carts which is what the printer retails for anyway). Does anyone know how or even if this counter can be reset so the low ink nag screen doesn't pop up every time I print something.
