LOL! I didn't mean multiple networks at home, Jon. But I have been in numerous work-situations that involved multiple networks.

Multiple networks? That's just greedy! :-)

After some experimenting, I discovered something interesting. My hardware
skills are insufficient to explain it, but anyway. I have two routers, one a
wireless Dlink and the other a wired LinkSys. The two boxes connected to the
Dlink could not see the other two. So I rewired everything and connected
everything to the Dlink. Lo and behold, suddenly everyone can see everyone
else.

I haven't yet removed the wired LinkSys from the setup. The Dlink connects
to the LinkSys and now it is redundant, since I don't have that many boxes.
But even without its removal, I have arrived where I wanted to go. Whew!

Incidentally, I also run Kaboodle from my main box (the only one with a 19"
flat monitor), and Kaboodle can see everything, so I can run anything on any
box without switching boxes. Cool!

In case anyone doesn't know about Kaboodle, just google it. It is pretty
cool if you have multiple boxes and/or multiple networks.

They could well be interfering. Turn them off, see what happens.

Hmmm. Interesting. I think the WXP firewall is enabled on all the XP boxes.
I have a router (actually two) so perhaps I don't need the local firewalls?

I'm concerned about external penetration of the network, but within my home
every box should be able to do everything. Does that imply that the local
firewalls are getting in the way?

First silly question, have you got firewalls on the PCs?

Always found that to be a problem :-)

I have this problem as well. We've got 6 machines here and some can push
onto other machines. Some can pull from. I can't figure it out either. But
we have some mixed OSes - XP Home, XP Pro, W2K. What are you running? All
the same?

I have four boxes on my home network. All of them were set up in a
workgroup, but for some reason my main box cannot see two of the machines,
and those two machines cannot see the other two machines. They all have the
same workgroup name and they all have a user called Arthur with the same
password.

Would it perhaps work if I removed the workgroup from all four boxes, or
simply changed its name, or anything else. I really need to copy about 30 GB
to one of the machines that I cannot see yet.

TIA,
Arthur
