Thanks John

I think I might already have that installed actually. I'll give it a go
tonight.

Nastygrams are already composed, I was just hoping that someone might be
able to give me a way to make it all work :-(

Uninstall everything.

Then buy Registry Mechanic from PC Tools. It is great and well worth the
cost.

http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/purchase/

Clean out the registry. Reboot.

Reinstall your AV stuff.

If it still doesn't work, then ... Write nastygrams to get your AV money
back.

Keep Registry Mechanic.

And no, I do not own shares of nor am I affiliated in any way with PC Tools,
in fact I had forgotten all about them until I needed a good registry
cleaner and rediscovered them.

Subject: [dba-Tech] McAfee VirusScan v11

Hi all

If you use McAfee, and you get a popup asking if you want to upgrade to
version 11, for "free", whatever you do, DO NOT say yes. I've had nothing
but trouble since I did. It upgrades VirusScan, SpamKiller and Security
Centre. Spam Killer is fine, but Security Centre and VirusScan conspire to
stop your pc working. I spent a good hours yesterday being unable to
download email or use the internet. I suppose in a way that makes it more
secure, and less likely to get infected, but if I wanted to stay offline,
I'd just unplug the network cable.

The problem initially started a couple of weeks ago, when I foolishly said
yes to the upgrade. It virtually killed my pc, and I tried to reinstall
VirusScan, this made it work a bit, it was almost usable. Then I decided to
get rid of it all, uninstalled it, defragged etc, then rebooted. I
downloaded the previous version of virus scan (10) but it insists on
installing the new version of security centre, which doesn't recognise
version 10 of virusscan, and then doesn't allow it to run.So I've got anti
virus software that doesn't run. Obviously, that's not ideal, so instead of
the upgrade I did last time, yesterday I uninstalled, and reinstalled the
NEW version of everything from McAfee.com. Now nothing works. The real pain
is that I only renewed my subscriptionin October, so if I go to a different
AV company, I've wasted $80.
