[dba-Tech] Outlook 2007 bug

So it would seem that an upgrade from 1GB to 2GB RAM would be in order if I
want to run 2 VMs. My only real need is for a W2K/A2K confuguration for
copmiling and testing.

Although I could set up a Linux VM and learn some Linux, yes?

Rocky,

Not that I can answer much anyway, I have gotten VMs up and running but
never spent much time playing with them. I don't understand what you are
looking for when you say "switching between machines". Physically switching
is done using hot keys on the keyboard so it takes just a second or two.
The virtual swaps (overhead?) for the software is almost negligible.

AFAICT, all virtual machines occupy the 2 GBytes of "program memory"
available on the host machine (when using a 32 bit OS as the host). You
determine how much memory each virtual machine is going to have in a
parameter screen. Thus you could have 4 virtual machines each allocated 500
mb, or two virtual machines each allocated one gigabyte etc.

As you can see, the limits of a 32 bit OS is becoming very real in many
different areas. Who'd uv thunk that 4 gigs of ram would be too small?

But seriously... The last thing I know of that was 4 megahertz was the old
PCXTs and none of them ran a P4.

Rocky,

With a four megahertz P4 it will take... Oh... About 60 minutes to switch
between machines.

Susan,

Did you know that the VMWare virtual machines thing can CLONE your existing
system into a virtual machine. You get everything that you now have, but it
is running in a virtual machine. Once you do that you can (for example)
install the 2007 office version and test that completely out in a virtual
machine. BTW that is all free stuff and more or less point and click "just
do it".

Could someone check the following bug for me? I haven't installed 2007 yet
-- can't have it and 2003 on the same system and my husband has my other
system tied up right now.

If you set Outlook 2007 to check spelling before sending a message, it goes
through the motions, but actually sends the errors. This happens only if you
are using plain text formatting. You can use plain text, but you must press
F7 to run Spell Check instead of relying on the automated option.

Both options are in the Options menu -- don't know what group that equates
to in 2007 though.

Just set both options: check spelling before sending and plain text and then
send a message with a typo to yourself.
