Subject: [dba-Tech] The Future of Programming, and a Provocative Book About
It

I'm reading a book by a guy who knows Java extremely well (he wrote about a
dozen books on the topic) and in his opinion, Java's moment in the sun has
passed. He proposes a couple of alternatives as the future: these do not
include .NET but do include Ruby on Rails (RoR hereinafter). The book is
called "Beyond Java" and it's by Bruce A. Tate and its ISBN is
0-596-10094-9. Whether or not you agree with his opinions, this man can
write!

I'm not all the way through the book yet, but it would appear that RoR is
his candidate for Next Language (Paradigm) to Learn. He thinks that both
Java and .NET are dead in their tracks, and cites numerous reasons why he
thinks so. Even should you choose to disagree with his theses (which are
explained in detail), this is the finest book on programming that I've read
in years.
