Also true, 

I always seem to have the impression that classic music lovers only
listen to classic music on a more or less decent sound system.
That is of course not true.

I'm a bit of a fanatic (any) music lover...

True, but then are you playing these mp3s on a high quality sound system
or via the speakers built in to the flat panel monitor case/ears
buds/other lousy output device?

Keep in mind that when saving a decompressed MP3 files back in to an MP3
file (or whatever lossy compression) will result in a lesser quality
than the original MP3 file.

Its like saving a JPG again and again.
