Not quite, they'll tell you what SHOULD be in it, or their minimum spec.
What's actually in it could be completely different.

You can get pretty much the same thing (or the Kingston equivalent) using
their memory configurator at www.kingston.com, if it's a manufactured
computer/server, rather than a home built system.

I call the manufacturer.  Had to do this a couple times in the last few
months with my Dell boxes.  Give them the model, they can tell you right
away.

Is there a way to tell what kind of RAM is installed in a box without
opening it? I'd like to know the type of RAM, the size of the modules, the
speed, etc., and determine all this while the box is running. Even better,
although I don't expect it, would be to know how many slots are available.
I'll tear the box open if need be, I guess, but it's a hassle I'd rather
avoid.
