Perhaps Stuart means to say that the two endeavors are equally futile or have equal potential. Perhaps not. Hans apparently regards expenditure on space exploration as less fruitful than 'researching/combatting climate change.' Controlling climate may prove to increase sustainability for constantly growing humanity. Then again, it might unleash terrible consequences such as disease.
