TechRepublic has a good collection of articles on taking apart most of the common pieces of hardware. It batteries are not soldered on like some manufactures, uses rivets instead of screws but there will be some glue melting to allow you to get into the case. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft+Surface+Pro+Teardown/12842/1 ...but be sure to make a screw sheet show the screw locations as there is about a hundred screws...even worse than the Dells.
