Hi Gustav,
So if one has just a laptop with plenty of hard drive space would Hyper-V
still work well?

Hi Susan

Hyper-V runs great.

Just have two things in mind: Specify initially the default location of the
vhd(x) files to a separate drive to not mock up your Windows folder and to
simplify backup; and always run the Hyper-V Manager as administrator for
administration only, while you - when the VMs are set up - access these as a
normal user via Remote Desktop when you work with the installed
applications.

Also note, that if you have a spare and decent box with 8 GB ram, you may
install the free Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 to host your VMs if you don't
want to clutter your normal workstation or wish to access the VMs from other
workstations or laptops as well.

John suggested I start a discussion on the Windows 8 VM. I have a Windows
8.1 system and I’ll probably put different versions of Office on it, so I
think I’ll go the VM route for each -- keeping 8.1 for each version is fine,
but keeping the different versions completely separate seems like a good
idea and with VM now part of the os, I thought I’d check it out. I’m hoping
it will be a simple and straight-forward process.

Anyone have experience with Windows 8 VM? I’d like to hear about it good or
bad. I’m off to read about it a bit. Thanks for your input!
