[dba-Tech] Microsoft Edge

Hi Jim

OK. And yes, Edge playes those videos out of the box.

But I'm still curious. What sites have you met that will stall Edge? So much talk about all kinds of troubles, while I only see it sprint – on all machines. Do I live on another planet?

Hi Gustav:

The site that it linked is not the issue, the playing of the flash video is and that is because I do not have a Flash plugin installed in my FF. Chrome and I suspect Edge, has a Flash player built in. As Chrome is going to eventually not longer support SWF objects, I would guess it is near impossible to sand-box them?

OTOH, on all browsers, there is no problem playing youtube FLV videos. Google's flash videos are designed differently than raw flash SWF code which has been deemed as potentially dangerous(?). Is that correct?

I have not given Edge much of a workout as just about all my work is done on Linux now. ;-)

Aside: After having three blue-screens, in two weeks, I was off Windows 10 and will probably wait until the next version...or when Windows starts delivering in containers. In the meantime, I will selfishly let other people, like Susan, do the debugging. ;-)

Jim

Hi Jim (and Susan)

That site opens in 5 seconds with Edge, 5 more to load the adds.
After 23 seconds in total, the video starts playing. Zero issues.

IE11 with AD Blocker will not play the video.

So I'm still curious. What sites have you met that will stall Edge?

Go to this site:

...and try to play the videos. I have not installed the latest Flash plugin on my version of FF and just let Chrome handle these rare occasions.
