Do you have an old operating system CD - like Windows 7 - that you could use to boot up the machine?  

When you get it fixed, make a recovery CD.

I am assuming you have tried booting with all the external pieces of hardware disconnected, does the hard drive sound as if it is working, what model dell is it ?
