Problem solved. A reset did the trick a reinstall basic info/pwd etc and
the evil is gone.

This all occurred bevause I fell for a message allegedly from google/gmail.
A word of caution. If you receive something similar be very careful.

I have learned my lesson.

I am using an LG smart phone and groping my way to understanding the UI. My
eyes are no longer what they once were.

Across the top of the screen are about 11 icons, whose images are so small
thar I have idea whar they reprsent.

Also, while in gmail, i have no idea how to switch from inbox to drafts to
sent.

Sorry, I've only ever had an Iphone.  Perhaps an inexpensive
magnifying glass would help you to see them better?   Good luck
figuring them out. A search on google brings up a ton of things to
check out too.

If you're having problems seeing the screen turn on the accessibility
features. There is one that allows you to triple tap the screen to enlarge
it and make it easier to see. You can also turn on large text.

To switch labels in GMail, tap the "hamburger", 3 horizontal lines, in the
top left. That will open a menu where you can select the label you want or
access settings.

Arthur, almost all of those icons can be access via the Settings instead. 
About your email. In the top-left, you should see Inbox -- there's a
dropdown arrow to the right. Tap it and you'll see the other folders.

Across the top of the screen are about 11 icons, whose images are so small
thar I have idea whar they reprsent.

Also, while in gmail, i have no idea how to switch from inbox to drafts to

occupies the dominant portion of my living room. Will 88 inches improve my

I think a lot depends on what sort of things you watch on TV.
Certainly most sports come out much better on a bigger screen
particularly with the high resolutions we have available now.  Hockey
has become much more watchable now that we can see and follow the
puck. And also how far away from the screen is your seating factors
into the equation. If you watch movies the bigger screen gives you
more of a theater experience.  I would toss out there that having a
good SOUND system with decent power and proper speakers including a
subwoofer or two is also important for that.  But you certainly have
to have the right room and a fairly decent sized room.  You can't put
a 7 & 1/2 foot screen in a 8 foot wide room.

Watching news being read on a larger screen IS a bit strange.  But you
get used to it.

I recently discovered this solution. 

Given that it is not possible to run the "sudo" command remotely, because a password cannot be entered and then the command "dd", used to generate an image (ISO file), cannot be run. Below is a solution to the problem:

The error you receive is due to the use of "sudo" command being used remotely (you would be asked for the password but you don't have a tty rights to enter it). On the other hand, as a normal user you can't normally use simply dd as suggested in another answer (you don't have the required permissions to the device). You can solve the problem by giving yourself rights to execute dd as sudo without a password. You can do this by editing the sudoers file (on the remote/Cloud instance!):

Run the following command line:
sudo visudo

Then add the following line to the text document (Be sure to substitute your username for "userfoo"):
userfoo ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /bin/dd if=/dev/sdX

Then save and exit and you can now issue the following command line:
ssh userfoo at host "sudo /bin/dd if=/dev/sdX" | dd of=test.dd

...and it should work. You could make a more generic entry in sudoers, allowing you to run dd with any parameter, but it is wiser to keep this "free-permission" to the minimum you need.

and lost a very handy feature.

 

1.      Used to be if I right clicked a file in the context menu that popped
up I could select Send To?Mail Recipient and an email with the file as an
attachment would be created.  The Send To?Mail Recipient is still there but
nothing happens ? no email with attachment.

 

1.      Further, I used to be able to drag and drop a file to an email to
attach -= which still works for docs, jpgs, pdfs, and xls but that no longer
works for zip files (haven?t tested other extensions).

 

Does anybody know what the fix is for either 1 or 2 or both?

Windows 10: Settings | Apps | "n Office n" | "change"

If get a choice on repair or online repair - choose online, it more through and doesn't take long when you live in a high speed area.

1.      Used to be if I right clicked a file in the context menu that popped
up I could select Send To?Mail Recipient and an email with the file as an attachment would be created.  The Send To?Mail Recipient is still there but nothing happens - no email with attachment.

 

1.      Further, I used to be able to drag and drop a file to an email to
attach -= which still works for docs, jpgs, pdfs, and xls but that no longer works for zip files (haven't tested other extensions).

 

Does anybody know what the fix is for either 1 or 2 or both?

Thank you.  That cured almost all of the problem. The Send To-->Email
recipient now works for all files.  I still can't drag and drop a zip file
but other extensions work for drag and drop to an Outlook email.  Any ideas
on the zip exclusion?

I got an update to Office 2010 in the middle of the night a few weeks ago
and lost a very handy feature.

 

1.      Used to be if I right clicked a file in the context menu that popped
up I could select Send To?Mail Recipient and an email with the file as an
attachment would be created.  The Send To?Mail Recipient is still there but
nothing happens - no email with attachment.

 

1.      Further, I used to be able to drag and drop a file to an email to
attach -= which still works for docs, jpgs, pdfs, and xls but that no longer
works for zip files (haven't tested other extensions).

 

Does anybody know what the fix is for either 1 or 2 or both?

That would be what is called a "read receipt" And it supposedly only
works in GMAIL if you have a "work or school" gmail account

There is a way to get Gmail to generate "read receipt" requests if you are using G-Suite, but 
not for ordinary GMail.  Even f you fo generate them but it is entirely up to the recipient of the 
email whether the  request is honoured or not.

Personally I have "Confrim delivery" and "Confirm reading" turned off in Pegasus Mail, so you 
will never see one from me.

One thing that irritates me is the sorting method on my Phone/Contacts. The
way I've entered names is First + Last, which defaults to the sorting
method, which is asinine: I want the list sorted by Last + First.

Is there any way to tell this ostensibly "smart" phone to do what I want?

It would appear that smart phones are an instance of "Be careful what you
ask for, lest you shall receive it." We wanted software so simple that it
would not require a manual. As a result, I have mastered about 1% of what
this smart phone can allegedly do. I am reduced to using it as a phone, to
make and receive calls. Occasionally I check my emails on it, but essential
commands such as "forward to", "reply to all" and others are, if they exist
in this minimal UI, are not readily apparent.

Fortunately, I have zero interest in playing games on my phone. I have one
particular friend who is addicted to phone-gaming, and he is not alone in
this addiction. I say "addiction" seriously; I am acquainted with this
medical/psychological issue, and he displays all the symptoms. This is a
problem not restricted to a few people scattered hither and yon, but rather
a widespread problem with psychological and sociological issues attendant,
to the point where Toronto's Center For Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
has added to its list of remedial programs a new program designed to wean
patients from their smart-phone addictions. (This is *serious*.)

Arthur, like anything, there's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you'll find you can move to most any phone and find your way around. When I get frustrated, I hand my phone to one of my granddaughters or to one of the kids at work. ?
