If your Macbook PRO is showing its age it may be time to migrate your BSD based system to full based Linux distribution.

Below is a link giving a step by step instructions on how to upgrade and manage the appropriate drivers. The Linus distro being used in this migration is to Gento Linux, not a newby version; definitely an enthusiast version, so unless you are familiar the base concepts of Linux, it will be a challenge.
