[dba-Tech] G Suite make a contact public

Jim,
G Suite is very basic. It lacks the sophistication of Office 365 which has been improving every week since I can remember. That in and of itself makes it a bit frustrating but at least capable. I have a few customers who I've set up with it now and while they are very basic in their needs now, that will most likely grow. Hopefully Google gets it act together on these simple issues or I'm really going to regret this venture.

As a follow up to my original post, NO, the contacts are still not sharing correctly.

Another aside, G Suite costs double per user to have simple chrome book/android device management capabilities. Office 365 includes it with the base price.

So while Google did pull a good copy of what Apple did in the 70/80s with school kids, it's a long way from being a true competitor with O365 for enterprise use. To reinforce that opinion, my peers who resell/support GSuite in their businesses are always complaining about it. Completely different attitude then the kiddies, residential millennials and trade rags opinions. I'll take working experience over any of those sources every time.

Hi John:

Today, in schools, most kids are using Chrome books, over 58% of all school computers and G suite attachment/client is one of the built in features. I would guess that in a decade, if this current trend continues, Office 365 will not be "the" office suite but "an" office suite.

Aside: When all these kids come out of schools what Office Suite will they demand?

It does seem like you are well past the initial start-up and are just doing an upgrade. Did you get to speak to a real person? If that happened I would get them to walk me through some testing...it can't be that difficult. Did you check out the following link?: https://gsuite.google.com/setup/

You do have or are working with a registered Domain? Propagation may be the delay?

Keep me posted as I may be doing an install at one point.

Jim

For what its worth I finally called support.

I had done everything correctly except from the Apps | G Suite | Settings for Directory choose "Show both domain profiles and domain shared contacts". Did that and still hasn't affected anything. The standard "propagation may take up to 24 hours" line. Odd that Sharing a G Drive folder and files, and a Calendar went so quickly but I guess tomorrow I'll see if that makes it work correctly.

Hi John:

Sorry, I do not but have been doing some investigation at this time. If I find anything I will post here.
