[dba-VB] Rapid Application Development: LightSwitch 2011 (nobeta)

Hi Gustav --

Yes, no one knows what technology will "fire" in the near future
I just noted I feel a bit "tired of custom MS technologies" - trying to make
money here using a limited (but huge - .NET framework IS huge) set of MS
technologies and to use as much as possible generally accepted software
development technologies, practices and standards...

BTW, I do plan to purchase Windows Phone 7/8 - if MS LightSwitch will be
able (isn't it yet?) to prototype/develop Windows Phone 7/8 apps I would
definitely try to use it...

Thank you.

P.S. ".NET Gadgeteer" and "3D printing" look very cool from here - imagine
one will be able to design and to "3d print" "home hand made" custom gadgets
in a few years:

"Gadgeteer utilizes the .NET Micro Framework to make writing code for your
device *as easy as* writing a desktop, Web or Windows Phone application."

Hi Shamil

No one knows, and so many smart opinions out there about what is "dead" or
"hot".
MS claims that Silverlight will remain a focus product but who knows?

Neither Silverlight, LightSwitch, or Access for that matter, is the answer
for everything, but I find LightSwitch to be much of that Access should have
been.

Most smartphone users will have an Android. I have a Windows Phone 7 and
find it superior.

Hi Gustav --

Thank you for your information.

I personally do not plan to work (and even to play) with MS LightSwitch.
I can be wrong - but as far as I have heard/read HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript will
soon (in a few years?) make Adobe Flash and SilverLight(?) a kind of
"obsolete" technologies:

http://ntt.cc/2010/03/15/will-html5-css-javascript-really-be-flash-and-silve
rlight-killer.html

and iPad doesn't support Adobe Flash (does it support Silverlight?) - and
according to the referred above article everybody will soon have an iPad :)

Thank you.

Hi Shamil

For a small project I recalled LightSwitch and wondered if it had moved
anywhere.
It has, and has even been labeled Go Live. I guess it means some kind of
improved level of support.

That took me a couple of minutes - and another couple to copy and paste the
links and post these here.
Then I browsed the development pages a little and people and the team seem
quite active.

But I still miss the time for testing ...
