Jim, Is it possible you've got an issue with opportunistic locking? We disabled it on a Win2k server (as advised for Access databases) and got the same problem with Word and Excel documents, however this was O97 Access runtime and Word/Excel2k.... Let me know if you think it applies and I'll see if I can dig out the notes on how it was solved. But now we've got to push it up in priority because he's choosing to make an issue of it. So can anyone tell me if there is a compatibility problem? I've never thought so. We seem to be having trouble with a couple of workstations where this is happening. Word will freeze for 3 or 4 minutes then startup and run normally. A second issue with the same users is when they save a file the same freeze happens. All of our users PCs are set to save to My Documents folder which is mapped to a network share. I have sp4 and do not have any problems at all. I've also not heard about this previously. > Our notwork guys want us to upgrade to O2K3 as result of this sporadic issue claiming that O97 is not optimized for Win2K and was never meant to run on it.
