Good point. I hadn't replied to this when it was posted, essentially because we have such a world wide membership. I personally think it's annoying that France always brushes against the US when it comes to action in the UN, but that's just me. Although, I lived in Florida when the Challenger blew up, and now I live in Dallas, so I was here for the Columbia. I haven't heard any Columbia jokes yet, but in Florida, the Challenger jokes were flying very quickly after that horrible accident. Sometimes humor, though cruel, can help keep people's emotions on an even keel. Even though I live in Dallas, I didn't see anything other then what they had on CNN. Meaning I didn't see anything 'live'. However, with the Challenger, Florida is flat as a board, and even though I was near Fort Lauderdale (I guess a few hundred miles), I could see the burst cloud of the Challenger...almost everyone in Florida could, it's a lot more devastating to actually see something like that in person, even if it was far away on the horizon...it was a 'BIG' cloud. There might be some citizens of the USA who find this amusing. Especially since the French have always had the moral strength to hold their own opinion at the UN and have been wise enough to walk away from a situation like Indo China. The men who fought for Napolean were never cowards nor were the men who helped open the North in North America and fought the English there. France was a battle ground during the first world war and they had their share of cowards and heros at all times. I suppose it is now a good time to target the French since they are not onside with the Iraq issue. This 'joke' used to be targeted at the Italians whose military record was not particularly auspicious in the last century. Promoting animosity towards a recognizable cultural entity is not humour in the land of guns and lynch mobs when they are preparing for war. This would never fly as humour in Canada. I won't be posting any space shuttle jokes because in humour, timing is everything.
