Calm down John! If you really want a flaky program try SPSS for DOS -----Original Message----- From: John Clark [mailto:John.Clark at niagaracounty.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 10:38 AM To: accessd at databaseadvisors.com Subject: [AccessD] Intermittent problem I am about ready to give up...forsake Access...regress back to DOS...how about modula 2? I know...Gustav told me that Prolog is alive...maybe I'll get into that! OK...I am being a little dramatic (greatly dramatic, you say?), but I am currently being driven nuts, by the Access fairies! I just finished up the input portion of the program that I am working on...well, pretty much...I may have some minor stuff to finish up. Anyhow, this program is very similar to the last one that I was working on, so I re-used a great deal of that code and tailored it to fit. One of the pieces that I re-used was for its control number, which this list helped me a great deal with...it was picking the next sequential number for the year, and making sure that it was in the form of 03-0001 (this would be the first number for this year). I finished this just prior to 11:30A yesterday, but there was an error. I had a lunch date with my wife, so I left it and went to lunch. When I came back, I verified that it did not work, but thought I found the problem...easy, I had forgotten to alter the table name...three times...duh, right? I fixed this, but received another error...something about "not enough parameters" or "parameter mismatch"...I actually think I seen both of these to be honest. I went through the code...in both the current program, and the one that I copied from...but couldn't find any obvious problems. I cut and pasted the code into word. I do this sometimes to "tear apart" the code...I place it onto a landscape formatted page, and blow the font up, and then I can color code each individual portion, so that I can more easily see nested functions, and parenthesis. This also helps me understand code that was borrowed from other sources, such as y'all. Again, I couldn't find any problems with the syntax, or the logic, so I ran the program one more time to re-read the error. The damn thing worked now! Fine, it worked, and maybe I should have simply been happy, but I hate that it had not...I did nothing to it, and it now worked. Today, I come in and get into my program, and it did not work again. Different error this time, "Run-time error '3085': Undefined function 'Nz' in Expression." Yes, 'Nz" is in my code, but it has always been there...it is the very first function used...it is suppose to be there. I shut down Access, and restarted the program, and, "Voila!" it works again. I am nervous that I will finish this up, install it for the user, and they will get stuff like this. Ahhhhhh! I guess, I am not really asking a question here...I am just venting, and hoping that maybe one of you will say, "calm down John." Take care!
