They are constantly changing their site, and as recently as 2 weeks ago it
was impossible to browse a list of search results @800x600 without scrolling
horizontally.

I just went there, and it seems that they have fixed that particular
problem.  Everything fits, but inexplicably there is still a horizontal
scrollbar at the bottom of the page!

What's wrong with eBay at 800x600. It all fits on my screen at that res.
even with the font size set to largest.

Of course if somone puts an item up for sale and it heads off west (to the
right of the screen) then that's the seller's fault, not eBay.
