[AccessD] OT Friday: Ice Adventure!

I know, I was born in New York, and lived most of my childhood in Vermont,
so snow and ice storms were everyday events, practically. In Vermont,
schools weren't closed unless the snow was several feet! <VBG>

The big problem is that it's a freak occurrance. In the few years that I
have lived hear, there have been three of those years with an icy period.
It lasts for a day or two, and goes away. That's not enough of a 'threat'
to maintain a fleet necessary to get the roads cleaned up in time for anyone
to really travel. The storm this week just hit fast and hard, faster then
anyone realized, and harder then anyone realized. On my 25 to 30 mile drive
home Monday night, I saw only 1 sand truck on the road. (Unlike in Vermont,
where there were fleets out an about all winter long keeping the roads
clear).

I also lived in Florida, for my high school years. In the winter our
outside pool was still in the 70s and 80s...(and after living there a few
years, it was then considered 'freezing'! <VBG>). Of course, the summers
were frequently very hot....AND HUMID! But when I lived in Washington state
(which got a 2 or 3 week 'stormy winter' period (Tacoma/Seattle area)), it
was a lot more prepared for snow and ice. However, the last summer I lived
there (ummmmm 98? memory is fogging up tonight....<VBG>), it was the heat
wave summer. Washington state was seeing temps in the 90's. (Which is
November and February weather for Florida <VBG>), but for Wasghington state,
it was a nightmare.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Drew

I guess you guys don't prepare for this sort of thing -- no salt/sand
trucks? Although, if too cold, it just refreezes. :( Glad you're OK!
