Great! I can then periodically transfer it via FTP in the background. I like the concept. I'll check it out. -----Original Message----- From: accessd-admin at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:accessd-admin at databaseadvisors.com]On Behalf Of Jim Dettman Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2003 1:43 PM To: accessd at databaseadvisors.com Subject: RE: [AccessD] The best way to Replicate across offices. John, Indirect replication is the way to go. What this is is a setup where each system has a "drop box". A file with the changes are placed there and replication then takes place locally. Checkout the following MSKB article: MOD2000: How to Distribute a Replica Set for Indirect Synchronization http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;272414 If you go to support.microsoft.com and search on "Indirect replication", you'll get a bunch of other articles as well that may be of interest (i.e. FAQ). I need some advice on the best way to replicate databases form 2 locations. The platform will be Access for now. Eventually they will have a T1 connection between the to locations so I can just share the database or eventually upsize to SQLServer. Both sites have Hi Speed access to the net. So what's the best method in the short run. Replication through some type of FTP server (if even possible), VPN (Never really investigated this), Web Enable database (never did this and would probably need help from someone), Somehow connect to database via ODBC through the net (is that the same as web enabling the database?)
