[AccessD] Isn't there SOME way to change an mdb back-end whi le users are in it?

I have not tried it, but it sounds like your solution may be to get the back
end updater.  Make your changes to a copy and schedule the update to happen
after hours.  I wouldn't try to work in it while people are using it.

Augh.  I've been away from Access development for so long I've
forgotten how frustrating some of these things are.

Is there any way to change an .mdb without having exclusive access to
it?  And without corrupting it?  I'm tired of staying after hours to
make changes after everyone's out, and so far I have been
unsuccessful in getting SQL Server OK'd.

Ugh, I say.
