Thanks for your advice and feedback Susan. I'm running on Win 2000 server, not Novell. I am satisfied that I am overstressing the Jet engine because of the number of forms, queries and other things that I have open at the same time. I have tried the 'Just in Time' method of reducing the number of open table references, but it was very slow. I will let you know how I solved it properly, if I ever do. The MVPS <http://www.mvps.org/access/bugs/bugs0010.htm> site had an interesting article which explained the problem, but Jet 3.6 didn't seem to solve it. The one time I ran into this, I ended up redoing my form to get rid of the subforms -- never did find the culprit. I was told it could be resolved with a simple switch on the Novell server (which did seem to be the culprit) -- but IT refused.
