Hi Jack, Not sure what you're trying to do here, but I don't believe you can open a recordset with an UPDATE sql statement; since recordsets simply present you with requested data for review, processing, whatever. If you simply want to run the Update SQL so that the records get updated, you can use "DoCmd.RunSQL mySQL". HTH.
