John,
Should've known you'd have thought of that.....

Sounds like you've gone so far you might as well go the whole hog and
construct a decent replacement for Outlook..... (no me too's yet please)

All that does is cause the message to not be highlighted. What I am
talking
about is the little envelope in the WINDOWS status bar that appears
whenever
a new mail arrives. I am being notified that new SPAM has arrived (not
useful and VERY distracting).

John,
If you're already manipulating the messages through VBA using Outlook
Object the messages have a read/unread property which can be set

I have a VERY effective spam filter now that works directly inside of
Access. It moves all spam messages to a spam directory, however it
doesn't
directly mark them read, so I see the little "message received" symbol
in
the toolbar whenever I get spam. Is there any way to cause any messages
coming into a specific directory to be marked as read so that the new
mail
indicator in the toolbar doesn't appear for those messages?
