It also shows how often Microsoft software (especially XP) calls home (as well as other software). Same thing, block it for a couple of weeks, you find out it really isnt needed. Hmmm, why doesn MS call home so much? :) D -----Original Message----- From: accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com]On Behalf Of John Bartow Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 10:04 AM To: Access Developers discussion and problem solving Subject: RE: [AccessD] Re: [] Virus mail Yes, combining hardware and software firewalls will more thoroughly cover your assets. You may use a spyware detector but they're only as good as they're updates. A software firewall will prevent outgoing traffic as well as incoming. A software firewall is one way to catch trojan horses and spyware that isn't known to the greater world yet. It is how I discovered the cable companies monitoring software. It is also how I discovered that it doesn't do anything for the end user. I wouldn't let it through for a week and it had no effect. I removed it entirely and it had no effect. The only downside to using a software firewall is the memory use and it usually make startups a little slower. > -----Original Message----- > From: accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com > [mailto:accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com]On Behalf Of John Colby > Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 9:41 AM > To: Access Developers discussion and problem solving > Subject: RE: [AccessD] Re: [] Virus mail > > > Ohhhhh... sorry, I no longer use Zonealarm. > > I guess I should ask this again though. > > I stopped using Zonealarm about two years ago when I finally > broke down and > bought a router for my home office.
