That's correct.
I've used Windows XP to VPN to my work network drives and have been able to
connect to a BE.  I have mapped the drives at home the same as at work.  I
do have broadband internet connection at home... it is slightly slower than
at work but it does the job I need.

Wouldn't that be essentially the same as using a LAN connection? That is,
the remote user "tunnels" into the LAN using a VPN connection, but shows a
regular Windows desktop as if he were using PCAnywhere. Something like
terminal server?
