It's not clear from your question exactly what you're trying to
accomplish, but you may get some guidance from Access help under the
topic "TopValues".  This feature allows you to limit a query's result to
the top 'N' values, the results depending on the specific selection
criteria and sort settings in the query.  Might help you to get you what
you want.
