Actually, the extension is .dat.  And my machine is a brand new installation
(I had to rebuild it about a month ago.

That is a VERY good point though.

Is the message really "Object is read-only" ?
File extension has to be .txt.
You may have set your machine years ago to get around it. There were ways.
